The Life as a Yogi intensive program is designed to be the introduction and foundation to the classical system of Yoga; in this module, we will be exploring the philosophical background of Yoga outlined by the main classical texts, as well as dive deeper into the techniques of Yoga, including the breath work (pranayama), meditation exercises, and the alignment and anatomy of the practice of Yoga.

*This training is available to all students hoping to deepen their understanding of Yoga. Students wishing to complete their 200hr Teacher Training certification can continue on to take Module II of the Life as a Yogi Program.

We have had an incredible year - thank you for everything you have contributed to the community; no matter how big or small of a part you have been of our movement, we are so thrilled you have chosen to spend a little time with us. We are celebrating the occasion with a special class on October 15th co-led by Raelene and Steve (with some special musical accompaniment from the latter), a kirtan, snacks and social afterwards.

Poise & Play: An Inversion Workshop for All Levels with Christine Price Clark

Join Christine for a workshop exploring some of the most foundational inversions of yoga asana: Pincha Mayurasana (Forearm Balance), Sirsasana (Headstand), and Sarvangasana (Shoulderstand). In this workshop for all levels, expect preparatory work, modifications and variations to support both optimal safety and sustainability. This focused work will be supplemented by some warming, rhythmic flows; reminding us of the inherent creativity at the heart of it all.

Mother, teacher, and mentor, Christine has been teaching since 2004; a journey that began in New York and landed her (back) in Vancouver in 2006. Her classes reflect a passion and respect for both rhythmic and fluid movement, and strong, focused attention. Pairing precision in alignment instruction with artful language, she works to create a space where you are both safe to feel, and supported to grow. She is regarded as a teacher who speaks openly and honestly about the full spectrum of the human experience; able to offer relevant teachings from both the ancient and the everyday.

About Capoeira:
Capoeira is a cultural representation that mixes sport, fight, dance, popular culture, music and play. It is characterized by agile and complex movements, where the feet, hands and gymnastic-acrobatic elements are used. It is different from other martial arts as it is accompanied by music.

About Thiago:
Thiago is from Motes Claros in Brazil, in the outback of Minas Gerais. He started practicing capoeira at age 13, he has been practicing the art for more than 20 years and studied to be a teacher under his master Aberre. Thiago has always followed in the footsteps of this master and performed at several cultural festivals all over Brazil, every year he visits Salvador in Bahia, the birthplace of capoeira to visit ancient masters of this Brazilian art. Besides capoeira, Thiago is an ambassador of Brazilian culture in teh forms of Forro, Maracatu, folia de reis, congado mineiro, samba de roda, jongo, maculele, and puxada de rede. Thiago carries all the energy of the traditional people of Brazil and transmits this force to all those around him.

This special devotional practice involves call and response chanting of various mantras with the intention of opening one’s heart and purely expressing the love within that through song. Generally traditional Sanskrit mantras are used, however this isn’t always the case. When we chant mantras, we aren’t creating something new; we are tuning into a vibrational frequency that has been resonating around the universe, coming from countless practitioners across the years and constantly rippling outward.

A workshop to kick-start the exploration into your energy, or pranic body. Enabling one to go deeper in yogic practice and take the wisdom of these fascinating 8 energy centers into everyday life. Whirling Wonders is a 3-hour Introduction to the Chakras, in order to initiate an exploration journey of these wonderful wells of knowledge within oneself. The pranic body - the home the Chakras - is a vast subject primarily because each and every aspect of who one is - physically, emotionally, and mentally can be attributed to the balance or imbalance of a chakra(s) within the body. The workshop covers the basic characteristics and functions of each chakra, including but not limited to:

· What each chakra “looks like” in its personality both in potential, balanced, and shadow properties as well as deficient and excessive states;

· What emotions and mental qualities are expressed within the frequency of each chakra;

· Which Asanas (physical yoga postures) stimulate and open each energy center; and

· Includes meditation to help one tap into the subtle energy of whirling wonders within
